Most hair loss in women is normally due to scalp damage due to perms, coloring dyes, relaxers, using too much heat when drying hair, overuse of shampoos, tight buns or pony-tails, and overcutting (long hair is healthier). The chemical salts and dyes in eyebrow and eyelash make ups often produce a severe loss of eyebrows and eyelashes by age 40 in many women. Psychological stress or hormonal shifts such a menopausal changes or stopping the use of birth control pills can also cause temporary hair loss. If you look at old photographs of families from about 1880, you will see that many women of age 60 still had long healthy hair in an era before modern hair care techniques. In poor areas on the world today, most mature women have healthier hair than in New York City.
Folligen
for Women
One hair of a woman can draw more
Folligen is a non-drug product designed by Dr. Loren Pickart to improve scalp and hair follicle health and hair vitality. Folligen products for women are normally used alone, or in combination with Emu Oil for Hair, or with minoxidil. However, in our experience, hair loss in women is easier to reverse than loss in men. Folligen had its beginning as a skin repair cream that was being tested in the Dermatology Department at the University of California at San Francisco. A 41-year-old woman with severe hair loss tried one of our skin repair creams because nothing else had worked to restore her lost hair. In two and one/half months she regained all her lost hair. Other people began using our skin repair cream to counter hair loss and. in time, Folligen emerged as a distinct product. Folligen's biological effect on hair is similar to other SRCP products such as Graftcyte and Tricomin which are skin repair products, based on Dr. Pickart's research in the 1980s, that aid hair growth and scalp health. Folligen® is recommended by nutrition expert Will Brink. See his article "Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow" from Musclemag International at www.brinkzone.com/hair.html From Greg Chamber's Hair Loss Newsletter - " One of the great unsung heroes in the fight against hair loss, Folligen, is available relatively cheaply and one of the few creams effective for hair growth at the front of the head (in some cases, nothing works 100 percent for everyone). It uses Copper Peptide technology from the inventor of the stuff. "

Folligen Lotion, Folligen Cream and Folligen Solution Therapy Spray
Folligen is sold in three versions: (1) Folligen Cream which that works well on hairlines, (2) a more-liquid Folligen Lotion for using in areas of denser hair, and (3) Folligen Solution Therapy Spray which can be sprayed as a fine mist into the hair.
Folligen® is a non-drug product designed by Dr. Loren Pickart to improve scalp and hair follicle health and hair vitality. Folligen is especially useful in helping to reduce scalp irritation caused by other hair growth products such as Rogaine® (minoxidil), Retin-A® (retinoic acid) and Propecia®. Compare Folligen Cream or Folligen Lotion at $19.95 and Folligen Solution Therapy Spray for $33.95 to Tricomin Solution Follicle Therapy Spray® sold by ProCyte for $48.00 and GraftCyte Solution® for $125.00 which are products based on Dr. Pickart's earlier hair health inventions.
All Folligen products contain a high concentration of blue-colored SRCP copper-peptide
complexes and do not contain any blue dyes or scalp damaging detergents
or alcohol.
If a woman has long hair,
it is a glory unto her.

Hair Regrowth for Women - Our Recommendations
1. Start with SRCPs (Skin Remodeling Copper Peptides) such as Folligen Lotion, Folligen Cream, or Folligen Solution Therapy Spray.
SRCPs have both skin repair and hair growth enhancement effects.
The copper-peptide concept of tissue renewal is based on 25 years of research. (click here for Published Research Articles) Dr. Pickart invented the SRCPs that produced Tricomin and GraftCyte while founding at ProCyte Corporation, which sells them. Both GraftCyte for improving the establishment of hair transplants, and Tricomin for stimulating hair growth, have demonstrated efficacy clinical studies.
We recommend using Folligen four to five times a week as a light coating applied before bedtime.
Our clients usually tell us that Folligen:
(1) Markedly reduces hair loss in about three weeks
(2) Improves their scalp health and reduces irritation
(3) Results in a thicker head of hair in about four months
Many of our customers
have reported that the combination of Folligen's SRCPs and emu
oil often produce drastic reductions in hair loss and increased hair growth.
Recently, Dr. Michael Holick (Boston University
Medical Center) reported a clinical study that found emu oil accelerated
skin regeneration and also stimulated hair growth. He wrote -"The hair
follicles were more robust, the skin thickness was remarkably increased...Also,
we discovered in the same test that over 80 percent of hair follicles that
had been 'asleep' were awakened, and began growing hair".
3. For More Hair Growth Add in Minoxidil (2% or 5%)
For more hair stimulation, add in 2% Minoxidil. This can be progressively increased to 5% Minoxidil. Sometimes minoxidil produces scalp irritation. If this happens, stop the minoxidil and use only Folligen until your scalp health is restored. Then reuse the 2% minoxidil and the 5% minoxidil if your scalp remains healthy. Prof. Hedio Uno, one of the world's top scientists on hair growth and who wrote the textbook on Rogaine, found SRCPs and minoxidil work together to produce increased hair growth.
The Method by the Numbers
This procedure works well for many people.
Step 1: Use Folligen Lotion, Cream or Spray to get your scalp in good shape. Apply a thin coating of Folligen Cream, Lotion or Folligen Solution Therapy Spray to the scalp. The Cream is better for the hairline and the Lotion and Spray are easier to work into heavier hair. Folligen is usually applied before bedtime. If desired, you may shampoo the Folligen out in the morning. Then start using 2% minoxidil along with Folligen. If this is not irritating, move up to Folligen and 5% minoxidil.
Apply the minoxidil first and let it dry for about a minute, then apply the Folligen.
Step 2. If your scalp become irritated stop the minoxidil but continue Folligen. When your scalp is OK again, resume the progressive use of minoxidil and start again with 2% and move up to 5%.
After a number of cycles of steps 1 and 2, your skin should adjust and you should be able to use both together.
While this 2-Step System works very well, many of our customers say that Folligen alone has sufficiently solved their hair problems.
3. Addition of Retinoic Acid (useful range 0.01 to 0.05%) gives further hair stimulation but may irritate the scalp.
Retinoic acid (Retin-A) helps produce thicker hair shafts when used with minoxidil. This combination appears to be one of the better current approaches to hair regrowth. The major drawback is an often strong scalp irritation. Folligen, used lightly, can greatly reduce this irritation. Sometimes, the combination of minoxidil and retinoic acid causes breaks in the skin barrier.
4. The addition of estrogen or a DHT blocker may help in some cases
Estrogens, the feminizing hormones, can inhibit or counteract the follicle-shrinking effect of the androgens. Women have more estrogens circulating in their blood than men. As a result of this higher level of estrogens, even women having a genetic predisposition for pattern hair loss are protected from losing their hair because of the high level of estrogens in their blood. When these women reach menopause however, their estrogen level may decrease sufficiently, and the protective effect of the estrogen may be overridden by the DHT message. Then hair can begin to thin, sometimes rapidly. Some women who are genetically pre-disposed to have pattern hair loss.
Estrogen supplementation can raise are estrogen levels, and help restore the emotional and physical condition of the patient to the pre-menopause states. It may also slow or stop hair loss triggered by menopause. While hormone replacement therapy has been a controversial treatment for menopause, newer methods are finding overall reductions both in the risk of some cancers and in the risk of heart diseases.
The best known DHT (dihydrotestosterone) blocker is Propecia®, the drug from Merck, but Merck does not recommend Propecia for women: a one year study of hair growth in 136 post-menopausal women found no significant effect of Propecia on hair growth.
Non-drug DHT Blockers include saw palmetto oil, pygeum and nettle root extract, the soybean isoflavones genistein and daidzien, and ginkgo biloba.
Saw palmetto has been used for over 400 years as a herbal treatment for enuresis, nocturia, atrophy of the testes, impotence, inflammation of the prostate, and as a mild aphrodisiac for men. Women used the berries to treat infertility, painful periods and problems with lactation.
Extracts of two plants, pygeum bark (Pygeum africanum) and nettle root (Urtica dioica) are widely used for the treatment of prostate hyperplasia.
Isoflavonoids, such as genistein and daidzein are weak estrogens and may lessen the risk of osteoporosis and heart disease. Several studies have found a protective effect of isoflavones against the development of cancer. The Chinese report that daidzien exhibits hair growth and hair color promoting activity. Some Folligen users have reported good hair regrowth when combined with oral intake of bioflavinoids.
Ginkgo biloba is a popular herb used world wide to improve cerebral blood flow and general blood circulation. It was recently reported by the Journal of the American Medical Association to slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease. It has been reported to inhibit 5-alpha reductase activity.
5. High level exercise training may cause hair loss
In women, severe exercise tends to reduce estrogen and raise testosterone. This can lead to a stopping of the menstrual cycle and more brittle bones. While there are many positive aspects of exercise training, this effect on hair should be kept in mind since it can increase the rate of hair loss.
6. Sudden hormone shifts can cause hair loss
In women hair loss can become severe after giving birth to a child or after discontinuation of oral contraceptives (birth control pills). The In these cases, a brief therapy with hair stimulators can usually restore hair to its previous condition.
Cautions:
Bleached, or very blond hair may pick up a green tint if Folligen is in contact with the hair. Try to keep the products on the scalp. However, many men and women with blond hair report excellent results with the Folligen products. This is similar to the greenish-tint that may occur after spending time in swimming pools. The blue color can be removed with a solution of 1 part of lemon juice and 4 parts of water.
If the coloring is a problem, then use Folligen for Blondes which has no blue color.
Folligen was designed by Dr. Loren Pickart whose previous inventions have produced clinically-proven products for the hair and scalp health such as products for hair transplantation sold as the GraftCyte® Advanced Hair Restoration Technology for improving the success of hair transplants consisting of: GraftCyte® Moist Dressings, GraftCyte® Hydrating Mist, GraftCyte® Post-Surgical Shampoo & Conditioner, and GraftCyte® Head Start Single Patient Pack. Other inventions produced the Tricomin® system for treatment of thinning hair consisting of the Tricomin® Solution Follicle Therapy Spray, Tricomin® Revitalizing Shampoo, Tricomin® Restructuring Conditioner and Tricomin® Conditioning Shampoo.
Folligen is an improvement over Pickart's previous inventions for
hair growth stimulation. Three US Patents 5,382,431; 5,554,375; 5,698,184
have issued on this technology which strongly assists skin renewal and
hair follicle regeneration. For more details, Published Articles on SRCPs.
How Long Will Folligen Last?
A tube of Folligen, used
about 4 times per week, should last 30 to 45 days depending on the size
of application area. In our clinical studies, we apply a very light coating
(approximately 10 milligrams per square centimeter) to the skin which is
then further rubbed into the skin. A bottle of Folligen Spray should last
about three months.
Folligen® aids hair health by helping the scalp tissue repair itself (such as with seborrheic dermatitis or damage from harsh chemicals, sunburn, and hair dryers). Clinical tests of Folligen's key ingredients have demonstrated that the primary effect is to help the skin improve it's barrier function.

I am a female, that's just a few months away from turning 50 years old and every year my hair seems to be getting a little thinner and finer. I started using the Minoxidil last year and it helped a lot. Then I stopped using it again for about 6 months and most of the increase in hair growth that I was visibly getting, I ended up losing again.
So I started using the Minoxidil again about 8 months ago and now there is much visible hair growth again. But the reason I am writing this letter is because of your fantastic product "Folligen".
I only started using it (the Folligen cream) around my hairline (where my hair is the weakest) about 3 months ago and you can not believe the new hair growth I have there now. It is very strong and healthy hair, not the fine and fragile hair that usually grows back in. My hair stylist can't believe the texture and the amount of hair that is growing in and now she wants to get the information on these products so she can sell them in her shop. She said that it was definitely the Folligen that did it, because it was exactly 3 months worth of hair growth.
Now, I am using it all over my entire head, so that I can have a thick and healthy head of hair again. Since I have medium length hair, the cream is too hard to put all over my scalp, so I use an empty minoxidil bottle with the dropper and this works great. If you could only see a picture of all the hair growth, it is truly amazing. Actually, my hair is looking rather "funky" right now (where all the new shorter hairs are sticking straight up ), but it will be worth it in just a few more weeks.
I have even thrown out all of my other hair products now (except for the Minoxidil) and strictly only use the Folligen Shampoo, Conditioner and the Spray Liquid. The shampoo and conditioner really makes my hair look and feel so much healthier and thicker too. I really love all of your products but the Folligen products are really outstanding, especially for people with thin, fine or fragile hair. I can't recommend them enough and have been telling everyone I know about them.
Keep up the great work

After two months of regular use of the Skin Bio shampoo, Bioheal and/or CP serum on my scalp ( I used the sample size of Folligen Lotion and the sample size of Emu Oil but Bioheal and CP Serum regularly ) my scalp had no reddish inflamed areas nor any broken skin. I was able to go to the hairdresser for a professional cut for the first time in four years. It was very gratifying for me so I wanted to encourage others.
My scalp is not cured because I still have areas where my hair growth is not normal - only about half an inch long - but my hair is thick enough to cover it.

New growth at the hair line has been significant, but at the back of the crown, especially it seems at the "cowlick" area, there is still some embarrassing thinning. I use both minoxidil and Folligen spray two times a day and your shampoo and conditioner which is superb, by the way. I use the extra strength minoxidil at night. Do you have any further suggestions? Would retin A applied to the scalp help? I was using Dr. Lowenbrau's formula ( hair spray) which as you probably know has both minoxidil and Retin A in it for a while before I discovered skin biology products, but it is too expensive. Thank you for any advice you might have.

I love the effects of Folligen. Since I have been using it for about three months (along with Xandrox), my hair has begun to grow fuller and more quickly.
Thank you for your response and for a great product!.

I use the Folligen shampoo and conditioner. The products have really helped stop the shedding that I had. I usually dilute a little cider vinegar in warm water and use it as a final rinse after i shampoo before the conditioner. My hair really shines when i do that.

Folligen is incredible on healing my scalp. I was using a mixture of minoxidil and azaleic acid and my scalp had developed crusty, scabby sores. When I put Folligen on the sores, the scabs came off after a day and my scalp became healthy again.

Folligen reduced my shedding from 120/day to 80/day after just a few days of use. When I was afraid that all my hair was going to fall out and I was going to be completely bald for life, I was terrified and frantic. I could never stop worrying about going bald because a hair would fall on my neck, my desk, or my clothes every 15 minutes. It was like the "death by 1000 cuts" or the "Chinese water torture." Now that the shedding is greatly reduced, I am relaxed again.
Since hair loss is frequently associated with stress, Folligen is doubly effective because it greatly reduces the hair loss, which reduces the attendant stress. For me, it broke the negative stress-shedding-stress cycle and started a positive cycle instead. I am also doing yoga and aerobic exercise, both of which I recommend highly.
I am 55, and my hormone replacement therapy was originally Premarin (.625 mg) and medroxyprogesterone (5.0 mg 14 days/month), which is very androgenic and bad for hair. My HRT is now Estratabs and Prometrium, which are both from yams and much less androgenic. My original HRT was probably a factor in my hair loss, which started 18 months ago, 3 months after my "most stressful week of the century." There is no androgenic alopecia in my family, and I have been diagnosed with "effluvium" and with "chronic telogen effluvium."
I am also using 2% Rogaine and Heatherworks lotion and shampoo, which neutralizes DHT and ureic acid, although I cannot use HW shampoo as often as recommended because I have to alternate T-Gel and Nioxin for seborrheic dermatitis.
I take many of the recommended nutritional supplements: biotin, L-lysine, folic acid, silica (horsetail fern), soy isoflavones, multiple vitamin, vitamin E, echinacea, garlic & parsley, and ferrous sulfate. I have just added alpha lipoic acid ("master anti-oxidant") at Dr. Pickart's suggestion. I sincerely believe these have encouraged regrowth and have added size and strength to the hairs.
I know Folligen was responsible for greatly reducing my shedding because I hadn't changed my HRT and I wasn't using anything else at the time. It is incomprehensible to me that dermatologists don't recommend Folligen. It has enabled me to stop worrying about hair loss and to enjoy life again.

I am so pleased that you have started yet another very helpful website with very useful information. Loss of scalp hair is particularly devastating for females who also have additional issues of complex, hormonal factors that may be either primary or secondary reasons for our hair disorders. This incurs even further frustration and constant agonizing. Any useful information, effective medication or products will always be gratefully received.
I have personally found Folligen to have superb benefits in recovering my own hair loss. When my scalp was initially acclimatizing to minoxidil, I used it very regularly with excellent results. This helped to build up my scalp tolerance and enabled me to very slowly wean firstly onto 2% strength and later, 5%. If my scalp became itchy or irritated I ceased use for a day or so, and applied Folligen, restarting with one application the following day, usually at pm, prior to an application of Folligen. I would then apply the 2% strength for a day or so and slowly build up to the 5% again. I am now able to tolerate the 5%, rarely experiencing itching, and continuing to use Folligen 2-3 times weekly, or as required. When my scalp is irritated, I notice some stinging on application of Folligen, much the same sensation as antiseptic applied to a wound. I mention this as it may remove unnecessary concern for other users.
In my own study of hair issues, I have noted that internal inflammation has been demonstrated as a factor associated with most types of alopecia, i.e. where scalp hair is lost. This has been noted in scalp biopsies, including those diagnosed as androgenetic alopecia. This may be more evident during periods of 'activity'. There does seem to be sufficient evidence to suggest periods of heightened activity and periods of stabilization with andrognetic alopecia, although this is essentially a slow, progressive miniaturization of hair follicles. Internal scalp inflammation has been demonstrated as an associated factor of most hair disorders, to various degrees. Although much work has already been undertaken, we still do not have any conclusive facts.
I have also noted how commonly scalp pain/burning sensations are experienced with scalp hair loss, also heightened scalp sensitivity. Whether this is associated with the crustaceous sensory nervous system, neuropeptide expression, and/or inflammatory processes/other activities via the nervous system, still remains to be determined.
I also recommend using Folligen prior to, and post chemical processing, eg permanents and hair colorants, even on otherwise healthy hair. Permanents can be especially irritating to sensitive scalps.
Folligen should be helpful both as a scalp soother and also in treating internal inflammation.
I am looking forward to using your new spray format.
Sincerely,
Mariellen

The Folligen Lotion has worked very well. Most of the hair I lost after childbirth has returned and looks thicker. The heavy shedding has stopped and I am thankful for that.
This time I am going to try the Folligen Spray. My hair looks very good but maybe I can grow it thicker and longer.

I have lupus and have had serious hair loss. Patches of hair fall out and my hairline has greatly receded. After three months on Folligen Lotion, all the bare patches now have hair and there has been no more patchy loss of hair. At my last visit with my hair stylist, she said: "What are you doing with your hair? Your old hairline has come back! You had tried a million things before and nothing ever worked!"

Dear sirs:
A few months ago, I received 3 jars of your blue cream from an associate of yours.
I had lost a lot of hair on the top of my head over the last three years. After using the 3 jars, I definitely has new hair growth. At my most recent visit to my hair colorist, he indicated that he saw a lot of small hairs that were growing in and noticed a marked improvement in my hair. He also indicated that my scalp wasn't as shiny as it had been due to the massive hair loss I had undergone.
One other aspect of this cream that has been particularly encouraging is a halt in hair loss. I feel that this cream has definitely strengthened the root ,and as a result I do not have hair loss when I wash my hair or even when combing it.
Best regards,
K.M.
